About and My Art

Hi, I'm Simone!

I'm an Arts Integration specialist and a Musical Theatre and Dance Teaching Artist based in Charleston, South Carolina.

My work

I have 8 years of experience teaching in classrooms, summer camps and After School programs, and choreographing for youth Musical Theatre. My choreography emphasizes storytelling and character movement. I ask students to always remember their "why."

I have designed, led, and choreographed summer camps at the Charleston Gaillard Center, Kate's Camp for Kids, Porter-Gaud's Camp Cyclone, and for Low Country Arts Theatre.

Through the school year, I share my work with organizations across South Carolina, including ArtsNOW, the Charleston Gaillard Center, Engaging Creative Minds, and Spoleto Festival USA, leading professional learning for educators, hosting residencies for students, and overall, bringing joy through art creation.

You'll find a common thread throughout all of my work. My commitment is to ensuring that art is accessible and that every person I have the pleasure to work with feels seen, heard, and accepted as a creative individual, as all human beings are.

Rather than a Teaching Artist whose goal is perfect technique, award-winning choreography, or exclusivity through troupe performing, my goal as a Teaching Artist has always been to push students of all ages to see what else they are capable of by and through art of all kinds.

  • I use words of encouragement often
  • I host lots of open-level classes
  • I encourage beginners to join me
  • I am specific when calling out my students' strengths
  • I meet students where they are
  • I emphasize process over product
  • I seek connection to many different topics as often as possible

My art

On stage

When I am not teaching, I love to perform. Acting and dancing in local productions keeps me learning, too.
